The Busy Giffs: April 2013

My Little Artist

As we know, I'm a teacher, student, mom and wife so I am constantly going in 32 directions.
We have April vacation and I fully capitalized on it.

For the first time ever, I didn't pick up any extra shifts during the break.

We went to P-Town, the zoo and hung around the house watching marathon bombing developments, watching Disney movies, and working on our yard.

It was so so much fun and I really wanted to use the time to spend with Emmalee.  I feel like I'm always at work or school so I loved having a week with her.

One day we painted! Or, I guess, she did.
It was her first time but she's in love with the Disney princesses so when I saw a paint set for $1 I had to get it for her!

Look at the concentration!

Screw the brush, I'm finger painting!

And of course, the final projects:

The set with 2 pictures, a brush and a thing of paint was only $1 from Dollar Tree!
I absolutely know what I'll be buying for this summer's free time!

A Jewelry Giveaway!

I am so excited for today's post!!

I was contacted by Wild Butterfly Boutique about hosting a giveaway.

I love that she has a brand new business and is just starting out.
You can really expect a level of love, quality, and personal touch when it's a self-run business.
What I love even more is her jewelry!!

Ok, I'll be honest, this whole being stylish thing is new for me.
Up until a year ago, I lived in black and white, yoga pants, and college sweatshirts.
It's only been since I started teaching that I've really come into my comfort.

I'm more excited about trying trends like colorful pants and big jewelry and Wild Butterfly Boutique has some amazing, big, colorful jewelry!!

I think it kind of goes without saying:

You can not be a blogger without owning at least one J Crew inspired bubble necklace. least that's how it feels sometimes.

I really love the necklaces and I'm so excited that Wild Butterfly Boutique has a great assortment of colors and they are less than $20 a piece!!

They also carry super cute matching bracelets but they're currently sold out.

J Crew not your style?

Modern Parent's Spring Thing!

Two weekends ago, we had the pleasure of attending Modern Parenting's Spring Thing!

It took place at the Marion Music Hall and the setting was just gorgeous and oh, so festive!

They set up the cutest brunch as well. Can you stand those forks and straws?!

We, unfortunately, did not stay long since we stopped by on our way to Provincetown, but I left with a bag full of sample and business cards!
I'm really hoping to work with some of those vendors-- I LOVED so many of the items they were offering.

And with all events, everyone loves the swag bag!
This was an amazing one!
A reusable tote bag, tommee tippee bottles, yoga mat wipes, safety 1st childproof set, lotions, a glass water bottle and tons of discounts for local places!

They have already announced a Fall 2013 MoPa Show and I can't wait!
Maybe I'll even get my cards in the swag bag...

Old Navy Tee Time!

Hooray for another Old Navy Style Council Review!

I am in love with these things and am so excited when I get to try out the great things happening at Old Navy!

I'm a member of Crowdtap, which is a super awesome research company that asks for your opinions and lets you try out great products!

I've previously tried out their dresses and their active wear and was thrilled when I found out I could try out their perfect and vintage tees.

The vintage tees are light weight, super soft and tagless for ultimate comfort.
They go perfect with weekend jeans or yoga pants!
Here's some of my favorites:

The Perfect Tees are more fitted throughout and also tagfree but I feel a bit easier to dress up and wear to work.

And here's a few I tried on myself!

I loved trying on new things at Old Navy and love being a part of their Style Council!

Disclaimer: I was offered a coupon for 2 free Old Navy Tees in exchange for my opinion.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.  Links are affiliate links that lead to Crowdtap's website.  While I recieve nothing directly, you clicking helps me get picked for more of these opportunities.

On An Event I'll Never Forget

It's been a rough week to live in Massachusetts.
It's been a rough week to be an American.

I told myself that I did not want to write about the events because, honestly, they make me sick but there's so much more to this story.
Part of me wants to have it written down for all eternity but another part of me knows I'll never forget it.

This post isn't about the assholes who terrorized my state.
This post isn't about being attached to my phone watching updates.
This post isn't about my hatred for people who used these events as a political platform.

It's about moving forward.

It's about thanking any service member you see.
It's about letting go of hate and learning to love others instead.
It's about telling your family every single day that you love them.
It's about being nice to strangers, who may need someone to let them know you can see them.
It's about knowing that even with all it's faults, we truly live in the best country there is.

It's about honoring a man who may have saved hundreds on the college campus that my brother will be attending next year.

You sir, are a hero.

It's about feeling safe at my college, knowing that on Suspect #2 and I were both on campus between Monday and Thursday.

It's about picking up the pieces, telling your loved ones they matter to you, and praying for the families who can no longer do that.

I've had a heavy heart all week and have had no desire to write but we are #BOSTONSTRONG and #BOSTONBRAVE and we will continue on.

Kali from Kaliwood!

Today's blogger is Kali from Kaliwood!

About Kali:
I'm a former blonde who refuses to quit. Born and raised in northern Kentucky (there is a difference) I grew up in a suburb just south of Cincinnati, OH. High school was Catholic and all females. That was interesting. I got my Marketing Degree and International Business Minor from the University of Kentucky (I bleed blue for life!). While there I spent a semester studying abroad in Dijon, France. It was the most amazing experience of my life! I visited: Paris, Versailles, Florence, Milan, Rome, Munich, and Barcelona. I now work as an event planner for a sports association and recently became a CMP (Certified Meeting Professional).I grew up playing several sports and still love them to this day. I am athletic and super competitive (even in our social kickball league!) I'm a die-hard fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the UK Wildcats Basketball. I also love all things girly: shoes, bags, clothes, etc. I call myself a feminist, but not the crazy bra-burning one that comes to your mind. I am passionate about equal rights and about allowing women to be strong, independent people who can also embrace their femininity.
I have a deep love for fried food and carbs. I'm a wannabe runner as of 2012. Daddy always told me I should be a lawyer because I can spin any situation in my favor and talk my way out of everything. Mom always told me I was the kind of person who can fall into a pile of sh*t and come out smelling like a rose. Maybe those two quotes are telling enough...

Why Kaliwood:
"Kaliwood" is a nickname I was given by a coworker that just stuck. Maybe it's my love of shoes, sparkle, oversized sunglasses, or just the overall glamorous lifestyle. Whatever the reason, I'm definitely a Kentucky-born girl with a Hollywood state of mind.

I blog because I need a creative outlet, a soapbox for my opinions, a great listener when I need to vent, and I love having a community of support! Blogging helps us all remember that we are not alone! And perhaps most importantly, I need to keep up to date on the latest shoe trends, beauty secrets, and have a platform to post a ridiculous amount of pictures of my pets!

Take a journey over to Kaliwood! It's the perfect place for a work get-a-way. Just kick your feet up and stay awhile! :)

You can also find Kali on Twitter & Pinterest!
