Newness!

Ok, I couldn't wait any longer...

say hello to my new name and design!
There's also a new domain but it's still coming so ya...

It's nothing fancy, but it's clean, and streamlined, and I love it.
Hope you do too!

An Easter Peeps Bouquet

I'm a teacher in Massachusetts and the only thing crappier than hearing "making up 6 days in June" is "MCAS"- our state's comprehensive assessment.

After a few long days, we all needed a little sugar boost.

I overheard our Title 1 director saying how Peeps are her downfall and since she had put in so much work, I decided I wanted to do something for her!

Enter the Peep Bouquet.
(sorry for the terrible camera phone pictures!)

Pretty cute right??

And in addition to cute, it's super inexpensive!

You will need:
A package of Peeps
A small jar or vase
Enough jelly bens to fill the vase 3/4 of the way (I used 2 bags)
and paper straws

($2 Peeps, $4 for 2 bags of jelly beans, $2 for paper straws, $1 for vase!)

First: Fill the vase with jelly beans, being sure to eat a handful of them.
Next: stick a paper straw right into your Peep (I think bunnies look best but you could do chicks if you wanted!)

Then eat more jelly beans.
Next, arrange your paper straws in the jelly beans! If you used enough jelly beans the straws will stand on their own!
If you have too many jelly beans... eat some! ;)

We did have one bunny fatality...

hehe.

You can always add ribbon around the vase if you'd like to dress it up more, but otherwise, you have a really fun looking centerpiece or conversation starter!

.................................................................................................................

Also, I'll be MIA over the weekend.
Spending some holiday time with my little girl, my husband and our extended families for Easter,
PLUS
I'll be doing a huge blog overhaul this weekend!

New blog name, new domain, new design... I'm so excited!
Be here first thing Monday morning to see all the great new changes!

Anonymity

I've found recently that, I kind of wish I had a bit less transparency and a bit more anonymity while writing.

I truly love the other bloggers that I work with and have met through Twitter but sometimes I feel nervous about airing my life online where just about anyone can see it.
I'm not ashamed of what I write, nor do I worry about anything I've written.

I think more about my students being able to google me and that concerns me.
My Facebook is almost impossible to find, and if you do happen to find me, everything on my page is blocked unless I allow you to see it.

Sadly, Keeping Up with the Giffords is just too easy to find so over the next couple weeks, the blog will have a new name, a new URL, a new link-up, and ideally, a few design tweaks.

I have registered for my first blog conference and have started swapping my buttons with other bloggers so I need to be serious about a name change now...

I hope you stick around;
I can not wait until April first to show you the new-ness!!

Chrissy from A Little Dash of Diva!

This week's sponsor is Chrissy from A Little Dash of Diva!

I’m Chrissy from A Little Dash of Diva! My blog offers a look at my life in general; from photography to my struggles with infertility and PCOS as well as my love of makeup and all things girly, pink and sparkly. I talk about my family and I try to keep things as real as possible. I love linkups and blog hops and you can expect a few reviews and giveaways sprinkled in along the way. I'm a SAHM to one beautiful 8 year old daughter and a 3 year old Boxer. my husband and I have been married for 9 years now.  As a family we love to travel, hike, go on photo walks, and just be together.  I initially started blogging as a way for out of town family and friends to keep up with us but it quickly turned into a place for me to be ME.  To vent about things that bug me, or to share the struggles of being a caregiver to a dying MIL and a GMA with bipolar disorder and alzheimers all while trying to raise my daughter and take care of my husband and take care of myself with whatever was left at the end of the day.

My blog is an important part of who I am at this point in my life and I love it!

Make sure you check out Chrissy on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest & Instagram!

Vera Bradley Summer 2013

It's snowing here in Massachusetts, but it is officially Spring so I'm getting into the spirit with some new summer Vera!

The new prints were just released on 3/21 and I have to say, I already used up the gift card I had on some new prints!

Summer 2013 : (shown left to right) Tutti Frutti, Lilli Bell, Marina Paisley, Sun Valley

I am so in love with the Tutti Frutti!
I've been contemplating a new bag for a month or so since the handle on my last big bag (a Christmas Tree Shop / Vera look alike) started to fall off.
I go from work (where I migrate through 4 classrooms) to school and try and keep everything on me so that if I have down time at either place, I can keep working on whatever is needed!

I am in love with the Grand Tote-- it's huge! Perfect size for all my stuff! I've been waiting for weeks for the Tutti Frutti pattern to be offered!

Isn't it fabulous!?

Also, if you spend more than $85, you get two free Zip Clips! Love!

Whats your favorite color?
Are you planning on picking up something special?

30 by 30 - #1

Remember that silly 30 by 30 list I wrote out two weeks ago?
Well, I accomplished my first already!

23. Have dinner out with my husband at Top of the Hub or go to Blue Man Group (he's never been!)

We did it!
We had our late Valentine's/(my) early birthday date in Boston and went and saw Blue Man Group!

I went YEARS ago with a friend but haven't been back since so it was a brand new show for me, as well as for David since it was his first time!

The show was wonderful and you really need to see it if you haven't.

After we walked across the street and went to Rock Bottom which was also amazing. So delicious.
It's a restaurant run by a brewery so you know it's good.

Dave wasn't sure what to drink so he had a sampler-- 6 beers!

It was our first date in about a year so it was so much fun but we loved coming home to the little one!

I'm excited to have crossed off my first "done"!

Do you have a 30 by 30? Leave it in the comments if you do!

Diligent Duty: A Guest Post from Carolyn at Full-On Fit!

I get a good amount of e-mails from people interested in working with me or asking me to share or be a part of something blog related.
Sometimes they are funny, sometimes they're garbage, and sometimes the email makes you stop and think.

Carolyn from Full-On Fit! e-mailed me and I was only too happy to share her information on my blog.
As a (semi)new momma, concerns like this are always weighing on my mind!

Check out what she has to say then head on over to her blog for even more great information!

Diligent Duty In 2013: Fighting Against Type 2 Diabetes in Children

Just a few short months ago, one of my youngest cousins was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It was a complete shock to our family – I knew she was struggling with her weight for some time, but I never thought she could actually develop diabetes from it, especially only at 13 years old! However, after talking to her doctors, we realized there are many families out there in our very same situation. Which is heartbreaking.

According to doctors from Syracuse’s St. Joseph’s Cardiac Hospital, diabetes is a serious disease in itself, but if it’s left untreated, it can lead to even more serious consequences, such as heart disease. Since February is National Heart Month, what better time is there than now to work together as a family towards preventing diabetes and heart disease, and instilling healthy habits? Here are a few tips to consider:

Nutrition Tips
     - Limit your carbohydrates intake
     - Eat foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol
     - Limit foods high in sodium and sugar
     - Replace salty snacks with fresh fruits and veggies (see recipe below)
     - Eat six small meals rather than three large meals each day
     - Get creative with your food – just because you are eating healthier
doesn’t mean you can’t eat some of your favorite foods
            - use whole grain breads and pastas
            - try pureed cauliflower instead of regular mashed potatoes
            - bake or grill your lean meats instead of frying it

Apple Yogurt Delight: A Great Snack for the Kids
Ingredients:
1 Apple
2-3 tbs. Low fat or fat free vanilla yogurt
1/8 tsp. Cinnamon
1-2 tbs. Walnuts

Mixing Directions:
Cut the apple into square pieces. Mix with yogurt, cinnamon, and walnuts. Serve and enjoy.

Exercise Tips
     - Go for a brisk walk after dinner as a family – you’ll work off your
meal and get in some more bonding time!
     - Go for a bike ride to and around your local park
     - Break out the jump ropes and have a contest to see who can jump
       the longest without messing up
     - Gather the neighborhood kids and families together to play a game
of soccer, kickball, capture-the-flag, tag, etc.
     - Create as obstacle course or treasure hunt in the backyard
     - Take a nature hike in the nearby woods
     - Take some Yoga or Zumba classes together

For more ideas for some great family-friendly activities, check out this list from the Fit MOVE Handbook.

Three Months Shy of 2!

Yikes!
In just 3 short months my little girl will be two!
My goodness!
She is growing so much everyday.

At 21 Months:

She is in 24 month clothes and her favorite clothes are anything at all that have Minnie, Mickey, Ariel, Cinderella, or Elmo on it!
She likes to help pick out the clothes (if you hold 2 up to let her have a choice) otherwise, she'll say "no" and not want to wear it.
She can put her arms in her sleeves all by herself.
She can put on her shoes all by herself, even if they end up on the wrong feet sometimes.
She loves "shoes", which she says, and will often put my sparkly ones on and walk around.

She loves loves loves the tub but hates having her hair washed.
Teeth brushing is a fight every day. She likes to brush her teeth but she does not want help.
Pig tails and pony tails are a daily occurrence, and she still loves bows and clips.

Says: that?, 2, shoe, ma, dad, bay (Bailey), no, uh (up- complete with hand movement), Ake & Zee (Jake & Izzy), Huh (Hook), hi, bye, ishies (goldfish crackers) and tons more that I can't think of...
She does this hilarious "ahhhhhh" gasp when she sees something she thinks is amazing.
She also makes a "mmmmmm" sound when she is "giving love", hugging mom or dad or one of her dolls.

She loves watching Bubble Guppies, Sophia the First, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Timmy Time, Octonauts and Little Einsteins.
We have actually used our Cinderella DVD so much that it's starting to skip!
Emma always picks out Cinderella or the Little Mermaid to watch!
She will grab a book and climb up into her rocking chair and "read" or get paper and pen and lay on her belly and color.
She loves her Disney castle and the princesses that she has.
One of her favorite toys is a princess jack in the box.

We have been pretty lucky and her temperamental eating days are few and far between (knock on wood!).
She still thinks the food on my plate tastes better than the food on hers but can usually be redirected back to her own.
She loves chicken, kielbasa, turkey, meatloaf and starches like rice, potatoes. She usually eats all of her vegetables as well!
She loves yogurt, french toast, mandarin oranges, pears, peaches, Life cereal, Cheerios and bacon!
Her favorite snacks are grapes and Goldfish crackers!

She loves animals, even pointing out birds as they fly over us.
Her zoo book is one of her favorites, making animal noises as we read : "bah bah", "wah wah", "raawr", "ssssss", "oooh ooh" and even puts her hands on her face and makes kissing noises to sound like a fish!

Even bed time is easier!
She goes down without a fight and sleeps all night.
She has decided that she doesn't like being put in her crib for naps anymore.
She doesn't like naps but will often fall asleep midactivity... fast down if she was coloring, curled up if she was watching something on tv, in her car seat if there are errands to run...

She had her first "mom, don't go meltdown" the other night but it was the first time.
Normally, everyone gets a kiss (even if they aren't leaving!!) and she runs off to play again.
The best is coming home and she's peeking out the window with a big smile or when you open the door, she makes the excited gasp noise the comes running!
Makes my heart burst!

The Great and Powerful Oz

We had a TON of snow fall on Friday and school got cancelled which meant I had a day off!
David and I had been looking forward to the release of The Great and Powerful Oz and jumped at the chance to go see it!
Ps. SUPER thanks to our favorite Monday-Friday Emma sitter for coming in the snow so we could go on a date!

Let's preface: I am a HUGE Oz fan.
I think I acted in a production 3 or 4 times, I know every word to the movie, every song and have seen it performed in Boston twice.
Love, love, love.

So part of me was able to figure out the movie before the ending because I knew certain things couldn't happen or it wouldn't be right for the original Wizard of Oz.

That being said, it is visually stunning. The settings had an Alice in Wonderland feel to them and the 3D effects really capped the movie.

Consider this movie on my wishlist.
