The Busy Giffs: January 2012

January 31, 2012

I'm not here today.

I know, you're devastated.

I'm actually featured as a breastfeeding momma over at I am Not the Babysitter.
Check it out!

And since I LOVE Target Tuesday...

Here's a list of the newest things I "need" now that the Princess is crawling!

We took the bumpers out of her crib but now she sticks her legs through the slats so we need to get something...

I like this one with the doors becuase we can actually latch them shut, can't with our current one.
I'm not sure I LOVE this one but it looks a lot like our current one and Dave likes it!

She's getting too tall for her jumperoo and I think she would love this to be able to kick around in.

A gate.

Baby proofing!

A really great toy organizer.
She is accumulating toys faster than I know where they are coming from.
We have a small basket in the living room but it is full and over flowing so we definitely need a new way to organize!

Not much fun this week but it helps me build my shopping list!

Go link up! :)

Which would you pick?

Next month, one of my favorite things happens.
My phone turns 2 years old and I am eligible for a brand new one. Love when that happens.
So here's the thing...

What do I get?

Hubby and I have our T-mobile plan and have had it for a while.
We had to extend our contract to get better pricing but since we didn't upgrade our phones then, we'll have full upgrades now.

I'm not sure what to do!

I know I love my Android but I am so interested in the new Windows phone!

It seems to have amazing reviews but I'm not sure if I'm willing to make the jump to a new platform!
Any advice?

6, 7 & 8

That's right-- 3 books this week!

I'm amazed that all I've had to do is read instead of surfing on my phone while nursing Emmalee and I've upped my reading by leaps and bounds. So here we go...

Ok, let me preface by saying I had never heard of these books before but I had the twins at story time and saw a hot pink library book. I had to pick it up. It was hot pink and had cake on the front.
Of course I checked it out.
Apparently this book is like the 9th in a series. Oh well. Still was good. A light, quick read with TONS of recipes sprinkled throughout the book, kind of cool. Well heres the thing...

The book doesn't end. Like at all.

The story mentions an earlier bank robbery, the book uncovers a mistaken identity plot, they discuss the jewels again but theres no legit resolution.

That's like going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and not realizing it's only the first part. This book doesnt say to be continued, it should have been all tied up at the end, and it wasnt.

And honestly, I'm so angry at the book, I don't even want to find out what the next one in the series is.

Another Pretty Little Liars book, I know, I know. But they're so fun.
I love these four ladies and A is just amazing.

This book kind of backtracks, to the summer right after Ian was arrested. It has more of A's point of view in it and is separated into 4 smaller stories, one about each girl. All four stories happen simultaneously, but are completely separate, unlike the other books in her series.

This book adds NOTHING to the other stories. Except for the mentions of Ian, you could read this book without reading any others and be perfectly fine.

Definitely not my favorite of her books but still enjoyable.

So this book was recommended to me every time I posted anywhere about book recommendations.
I am so glad it was.
It was a really great read.
Have you read it? Have you read The Giver? Do they seem very similar to you as well?
Maybe just the idea of the disjointed society.. I don't know but all I could think of was Jonas running through the woods...
I will defiantly be reading the other books in the series and maybe, even watching the movie when it comes out!

What are you reading?
Any more suggestions for me?

For The Princess

I am super excited about this!
Ok, well, I would be more excited if we were in a position to spend money on things buuuuut I still feel like I need to share because it's such a fabulous event if you have to have new things for your baby.

Personally, I love the gifts and hand me downs that were given to us but when we wanted a jumperoo for Emmalee, no one had one so we had to buy one. Luckily I found one at a second hand store so I paid a fraction of the cost.

Thankfully we don't need any baby gear for Emmalee but here's the scoop.

If you bring in any old car seat, stroller, travel system, high chair, pack and play, bassinet, walker, swing, bouncer, jumperoo, or crib, they will give you a 25% off coupon to put towards a new one! It doesn't even have to be the same thing!
I could bring in Emmalee's old bouncer seat and get a 25% coupon and use it on a new jogging stroller (wink wink)! I think you have to use the coupon that day so be prepared to spend money when you go!
It runs from the 27th of this month until Feb 20th.
So if you acn get your hands on an old piece of gear-- go save yourself 25%!

And since it's Wednesday...

We'll keep with the baby theme and here's some of my favorite pins from my "For the Princess" board!

Please buy this for me...

This will be in my home (when I finally have one)... them anything.

Emmalee's bedtime is pretty concrete.

If I'm working, I get home between 5 and 6 pm and I immediately nurse her.
She's happy and plays with her toys while I make dinner for Dave and I (or a Lean cuisine if he's a work).
I eat & feed her some solids.

Then it's playtime.
Usually a tea party or chasing blocks across the floor or her just jumping up and down while I hold her and screaming as loud as she can.
It's a fun game.

Around 7:30 it's time for a tubby.
Then we read a couple stories together
and then she nurses herself to sleep sometime around 8:30.

Then it's mommy's turn to play/
Usually a bout of Facebook stalking, blogging, checking my emails and a obviously some pinning.
It's a fun game.

Then I take the hottest shower my skin can handle.
Follow it up with some reading in bed and I'm out.

I mean, if I nursed myself to sleep, we'd be pretty similar.

I guess my question is:
Is Emmalee the way she is because of me?
Or have I changed to be more like her?
How much influence really exists in the parent/child exchanges;
whose influencing who?

One more post...

I'm reposting because the contest ends on Wednesday and I need one last push!!

We are trying to win a Kegerator!
Seems wierd, right?

Well we went through a lot and money has been super tight for us since July of last year.

David has done so much to help.
He took a job way below what he deserves because in his eyes "it's better than not having anything" and just last week, he sold his video game (gasp!) to make sure we had enough to cover a bill since our direct deposits weren't going through for another 24 hours.

He's Mr. Mom during the day so I can work and he is such an amazing father.
So I'd LOVE to win this for him.

Here's all you have to do:

"Like" them.

Find this picture:

and "like" it!
That's it!

They're giving away a Kegerator in honor of the Superbowl.

We currently have 150 votes, but the guy in 1 st place works at a brewery and has 230! Yikes!

Ps. I'll be giving away a $5 Starbucks gift card to one of the amazing people who "likes" the picture!

Pancakes & Snow

In Massachusetts... it's snowing.
And I don't know about you but when I had a snow day, I craved chocolate chip pancakes.
So naturally this morning, I made chocolate chip pancakes.
And a plain one so Emmalee could try one for the first time.

She enjoyed it but still doesn't understand that once she balls it up in her hand, she has to put it in her mouth.
Instead, she sits there with a balled up pancake in her hand and opens her mouth to ask for more.
Love her.

And since it's really the first snowfall for her, we figured we'd let her see it/ play in it.
We live in New England, she's going to have to get used to it eventually...

No tears... except when we put her mittens on... so I think it was a success!

How about you? Any snow yet?

Books 4 & 5

Yey! Another week and 2 more books!!
I keep on this pace and I'll read 100 books this year!
But let's be honest.. I won't.

This week I read:

I took all of your advice and I read it.
I can't say I loved it.
Maybe that's just because I can't stand the lead character Darcy.
I feel like I have a Darcy in my life so maybe I was just all set with her.
It was a good book though. I really enjoy how Emily Giffin writes so I'm sure I'll read her other books as well.

I have to admit... I got this book, read 4 chapters and put it on hold while I read Something Borrowed.
Ehhh... it was a super quick easy read but nothing I'd pick up again.
I really enjoyed Shopaholic so I was hoping to love this but sadly, no luck.
Good but not great.

That's 5. :)

Look What I made!

I've been going back and forth with myself about creating things like this and now that I have my amazing Cricut, I've been in "gift making mode".

I'd love to make a prints like this for friends who have a baby or get married.
And ....

I'm even considering opening an Etsy shop eventually!
It wouldn't be a full time thing but it would allow me to spend more time crafting and maybe, if I can bring in enough income, help us be in a better place financially.

What do you think?

Oh How Pinteresting...

It's no secret that I'm a Pinterest addict.
So I'm joining up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for a little link up!

C. O. Bigelow

I'm in love. Literally, in love with this stuff.
I bought a small pot of it at the Bath & Body Works Sale.
86 cents.
Normally $5.50 but was 75% off and then somehow came out to 86 cents.
I was thrilled.

It's the all in one amazingness.
Chapped lips. It does that.
I'm too cheap to get manicures. I can paint my own nails but in the winter my cuticles get brutal.
This stuff makes them soft and pretty again.
Dry skin on your elbow. Um yep. And eww.
This will make them super smooth as well.

I wish they had a bigger container of it because I'm obsessed.

What's your go to winter go to product?
Because I'm seriously sure I just found mine!

A Scary Moment

I can not say this enough:
Do Not Leave Your Child Unattended In the Bathtub. EVER.

Tonight was scary.
I gave Emma an early tub so that she'd be nursing/falling asleep by the time the game started.
We got her a new blow up duck tub that is much smaller so she can sit on her own and not feel overwhelmed by the big tub.
The great thing is, because its smaller she can reach her toys because they don't all float away.

Well, she went for a toy on the other end of the tub... and face planted.
Thank God I was sitting right there.
She's fine, she was a little scared and sputting out water but was back to playing in minutes.
I think I was more scared than her.

Definitely the scariest moment I've had so far with her.

From last night's tubby... but how cute! <3

January 13, 2012

I have a 7 month old.

My beautiful little girl is 7 months old today!
Can you believe it?
She gets more grown up and gorgeous every day.

And I was smart enough to iron on her month numbers this time so I was able to get pictures of her being cute, not her trying to rip off the sticker

I'm pretty sure she thought she was at a photo shoot and started posing for me.

So let's see...

You have grown by leaps and bounds in the past few weeks.
You love your fruits and veggies; there are very few that you make a face to!
Very often you try and eat the whole jar!
We're still nursing but because its been very hard to pump at work lately, we'll be introducing formula very soon as a supplement bottle while I'm at work.
We do have some milk stored up so hopefully we can do half and half bottles until you are old enough for cow's milk.

You love, love, love songs and when mommy sings. It doesn't even matter what, you just smile.
You still do your super screech/giggle/laugh that I love but you have a true honest to goodness laugh that just melts my heart.
You are super ticklish and when you see mommy or daddy coming in to get your belly, you curl yourself up and laugh before we can even touch you!

You and the pups have become very very good friends. When we let them out of their crates when we get home, they rush to you first.  If you're playing on the ground, Sable will army crawl to you and then roll over on her back so you can give her loves and she loves to snuggle with you when you lay on the couch with me!

You have the most amazing blue eyes.
And your hair is getting very very light. I think you're going to be a little blondie like I was. You let Daddy brush your hair in the mornings and you have become fascinated with your bow collection that's behind your changing table. Every time you get changed, you grab a new bow... and I let you wear it!

You sit up unsupported now, which is crazy to me.
Sometimes you still fall backwards because you get excited and throw yourself backwards or because you try and look straight up and end up toppling.
You're like a little Weeble though because you roll right over and start going again.

You don't use your whale tubby anymore. You like the big tub instead! I need to buy something like this because you still seem so small inside our big tub. Your toys float too far away and then you get mad!
You also never use your bouncer seat, you've gotten too big for it. You like to be either sitting straight up or on your belly so you can move somewhere. And, we haven't used the Rock N Play in about 2 weeks!
Most nights you sleep in your crib, or at least start out in your crib. The transition hasn't been very easy but it seems to be working!

You still can't crawl but in the past 36 hours you've learned how to lift up your belly and get on all fours so I'm sure it will happen soon.
For now, you are still super mobile.
You can crawl backwards and roll and if we take our eyes off of you for a minute, you're on the other side of the room.
Last night Daddy heard you making noise but couldn't see you because you had scooted yourself under the coffee table!

I just love you so much. <3

Book Club Friday!

So I was crazy this week and read two books!

I already blogged about them here and here so I think from now on, I'm just going to wait until Book Club Friday and then share what I've read!

All the more people to hold me accountable to actually do all this reading!

40 in 4 - Thanks Corona

I know my 40 in 4 won't end completely successfully, especially since coronavirus has shut down so much of what I wanted to do (goodbye ...
